Umbrella Strollers For Toddlers
Are you looking for a new umbrella stroller? Strollers for toddlers and infants come in all shapes and sizes. Umbrella strollers are great because they are light, easy to use, and can usually carry a pretty decent load. If you want to be able to carry your little one and are not expecting your stroller to be a shopping cart, then an umbrella stroller is a good choice. There are several different choices, but the finest one out there in my opinion is the Maclaren volo lightweight umbrella stroller.
Super Stylish
This thing is super stylish. Not many stroller companies bother to think very much about the way a stroller looks. Not so with Maclaren. They give this detail, as other details, a lot of thought. After all, we give a lot of thought to the style of what our children wear, what we wear, what their nursery’s look like and so on. Is it any less important that your stroller should be stylish also? I don’t think so.
Function First
Of course, any stroller that is only beautiful is also useless. The Maclaren Volo is first and foremost and excellent stroller. It’s as light as a feather. It’s only 9 pounds. Nine Pounds!! Some children weigh more then that at birth! But as light as it is, it can actually carry a significant payload. This stroller is built properly. It can carry up to 55 pounds. If you are looking for a stroller to carry your toddler, as strollers for toddlers go, this one has to be among the best for that feature alone. Here are some other great features:
- Big Canopy – The importance of a big canopy may not seem that obvious, but it’s one of the most important features of a stroller. You want to keep the sun and wind of your child and this one does it well.
- Rain Cover – Maclaren includes a rain cover for the stroller. Attention to detail and one less thing you have to buy.
- Handy Storage Basket – The storage basket isn’t huge, but it is useful. The thing isn’t a shopping cart. Most people buying an umbrella stroller realize that. Still, it’s great for holding some diapers or snacks etc.
- Foot Brake – I love a fotbrake. Inevitably I am carrying a ton of stuff while pushing the stroller. The ability to just kick brake on as I load the car or throw things in the trunk has been a lifesaver on more than one occassion.
- One Hand Fold/Carrying Strap – For those times when your little one just wants to walk, or for whatever reason you end up carrying the stroller, the carrying strap is very handy. Combined with one hand fold, you can effectively carry your child on your hip and your stroller in your other hand without too much trouble. Again, remember, it’s only 9 pounds.
- Front Wheel Swivel Lock – This is super handy when you are strolling with less than a firm underfooting. Locking the front wheel lets your power through things more easily.
Reasonably Priced

The Maclaren Volo gives you a fair amount of features but still at a decent price. It’s not the cheapest umbrella out there but it’s also not the most expensive. It’s at that 100 dollar sweet spot, which, when combined with a good warranty, is not at all outrageous for a stroller. The Maclaren Volo Umbrella is well built and will survive the toddler years very well. If you you like what you see, check it out on Amazon right here.
Lightweight Strollers For Toddlers
I think everybody that has a child should have a lightweight stroller. You can get away with avoiding a stroller when your child is just and an infant, but as they grow into a big boy or girl, you will find yourself looking for strollers for toddlers to be sure.
Lightweight Means Light
There are lots of different features on strollers these days. Stroller manufacturers have thought of nearly everything! But for the basic needs of any everyday stroller there is really on one main requirement. And that is it’s light! A lightweight stroller can be super useful. When you want to go to the mall and want have a quick and easy stroller to carry your child in, then it only makes sense to choose a lightweight. The Maclaren volo for example is a measly 9 pounds!
Light On Price
I always tell people go ahead and buy a couple of strollers. After all if you are dealing with toddlers and infants then it’s smart to have the right stroller for the job. The great thing is the best strollers for toddlers are typically easy on the pocket book. The Maclaren Volo for example is right around a hundred bucks. How can you beat that? Just skip going out to dinner one weekend and you have paid for it.
All The Necessities
The best lightweight strollers for toddlers find a away to fit it all in yet keep the units light. But lets face it, features are still very important. If you are going to go to the trouble of buying an extra stroller then you are going to want one to serves your needs. Here’s what you can expect from the Volo:
- Adjustable 5 Point Harness – When you are dealing with young kids, they grow. And grow and grow and grow!
- Foot Brake – I love that thing. When you’re hands are full and you just want to make sure junior stays put for a minute, that foot brake is invaluable.
- Hood and Rain Cover – This is what I love about Maclaren. They don’t nickle and dime you to death on accessories. The rain cover is just included, period.
- Removable, Washable Mesh Seat – Kids are messy. It’s easy to keep this thing clean.
- One Hand Fold & Carry Strap – Sometimes your little one just doesn’t want to stroll. It’s nice to be able to pick the thing up with an easy carry handle. Since it weighs less than 9 pounds, thats pretty easy to sling over your shoulder.
- Aluminum – It’s light, it might make you think it’s not strong. But it is, it’s really strong because of that aluminum chassis. It can actually hold a 50 pound load!

Best Strollers For Toddlers?

Toddlers are still small children and they still need a stroller and they still need pushed occasionally. So what’s a good choice to buy for your toddler? Well most strollers will take a child up to 40 or 45 pounds, which is plenty for more toddlers. So what are the best strollers for toddlers?
Great Price, Great Value
The Kolcraft Contours Lite Stroller is really inexpensive, but that along is not enough reason to buy it. It’s also great value which is a great reason to buy it! It’s a great value because there are lots of premium features on this little stroller that more expensive, supposedly better strollers just dont’ have. Here is what I am referring to:
- Coffee Holder – This brand of strollers for toddlers comes with the obligatory adult coffee/drink holder. A must
- Big Cargo Basket – This Contours has a great cargo basket that rides under your little one. It’s big by stroller standards and can easily handle diapers, wipes, keys and whatever other stuff you want to pitch in there.
- Good Size Wheels – Bigger wheels make it easy to bump over curbs and things. Slightly larger rear wheels also make it easier to turn the stroller with one hand.
- One Hand Fold – The stroller is light enough and to pick up with one hand. The really cool thing is you can also fold it up with one hand.
- Super Light – The thing weighs in at 16 pounds. Nuff said!
- Kids Snack Tray and Drink Holder – This is very important for little snacks like cheerios and so on. But you can also remove it. All strollers for toddlers should have this feature.
Seats Recline
The seat reclines for when your little one falls asleep. Our baby falls asleep about 5 minutes after she’s been in the thing, so it’s very important to me that the seat recline back. Also before you little one can actually sit up on her own in one of her strollers for toddlers she shouldn’t be in an upright position, only laying down, especially for long periods of time.
Strollers For Toddlers And Infants

This unit is the perfect size for your toddler. If you started out without a stroller or something that served you, but has now failed then this is a great little unit to server your strolling needs. But you don’t need to wait too long to use it. You can very safely start with this stroller as soon as your child can sit up on his her own. That’s usually about the time that you are ready to stop carrying them and put them in a stroller. They want to sit up and look around at that point anyway. If this sounds good to you, check it out on Amazon. Amazon is the best place to buy in my opinion.
Strollers For Toddlers – The Kolcraft Contours
Strollers for Toddlers or infants come in many different shapes, sizes and colours. For my money, one best and the most inexpensive to boot is the Kolcraft Contours Lite Stroller. The problem with a lot of lightweight and less expsensive strollers is that they either lack features or are really small. This is not the case with the Contours Lite.
One Hand Operation
This thing is built to be operated with one hand. It has a decent set of 6 inch caster style wheels on the front which make it easy to spin around on a dime. You can easily push even your toddler through the mall with one hand. I find that very important when I am drinking my coffee and just cruising through the mall for example.
Lots of Cargo Space
The cargo basket is great on this thing. It extends the entire length of the stroller and hangs under the seat between the wheels. You can pitch a lot of stuff in there. You know what I am talking about, diapers, wipes, bottles, blankets and all the rest of the things that comes with kids.
Best Features
These are some of the best features of the Kolcraft Contours Lite Stroller:
- Really Light – At 16 pounds, you won’t find any other stroller that has all these features.
- Removable Snack/Drink Tray – Not all lightweights even have a snack and drink tray, much less a removable one!
- Big Storage BelowReally Important for the endless amount of stuff we seem to carry with our little ones day to day
- Good RecliningThis unit reclines back nicely. In fact, it’s intended to be used that way for infants before they can sit up on their own. It’s a decent alternative to a bassinet or a pram
- Just Plain CheapIt’s well under a 100 bucks, it’s hard to go wrong!
- Adjustable CanopyAgain, a lot of less expensive lightweight strollers don’t let you move the canopy very much, if it all.
- Coffee Holder!A must have. Again not all lightweights include this. I wouldn’t buy one without it.
Cons

There are a few things they could do a little bit better on this unit. First of all while it reclines very well, you have to use a strap thingy to release the recline and it can be a bit of a pain to put it back up. Secondly, the snack tray is a bit high and can impede your childs view. The solution if it’s bothersome is to just remove it.
All In All A Great Stroller
All in all, the Kolcraft Contours Lite Stroller is a good stroller at a great price. Whether you use it as your main stroller or pick it up as a spare, it will serve infant and toddler very well.
